About `The Face of Venus' and What's New
- Databases:
The crater database queried in this document is the most complete
version available; it contains 935 identified impact craters on Venus.
Dr. Gerald Schaber (USGS) kindly supplied us with a recent version of
his crater database, containing the location and classification of
each crater type. Dr. Joel Russell (USGS) provided the origin of crater and corona names for this document.
- Venus craters are searchable by size and/or type
and the selected ones are displayed on an interactive graphical map.
Hierarchical cluster analysis of craters is an optional spatial
analysis feature which identifies the relative proximity of craters to
one another.
- Venus coronae searchable by size with interactive
graphical map of coronae. Hierarchical cluster analysis of coronae is
also possible. This database is incomplete: only about 1/4 of all
coronae are presently available. The origin of a few corona names are
not listed; an updated version of the coronae database will be added
in the next release of the FOV.
- Documents:
- An introduction to impacts, tectonic and volcanic
structures on Venus. References to publications included.
- The crater and corona features are displayed on a
Sinusoidal Equal-Area projection, centred on 180 degrees
longitude. It is the only projection currently available.
- Three map sizes (1,2,4) are available.
First on-line: November 29 1994
